Obstacles to Investing: Eliminate the Negative

Create two lists of people and/or circumstances currently in your life: the positive and the negative.  This will help you focus on the people and the situations you should be spending more time with, and those to avoid.

Example:

Positive Influences

1.        Date Night” with wife

2.       Thursday morning networking meeting

3.       Jujitsu class 2X/week

4.       Time with Dad

5.       Monthly Investors Club meeting

6.       Etc…

Negative Influences

1.        Avoid Tom (guy in office who spends all his time complaining to anyone who will listen)

2.       Find replacement for myself as webmaster for club (too time consuming)

3.       Etc…

Now, work on eliminating the negative influences in your life.  It may take a while, but focus on eliminating one negative from your life at a time, and at a pace that is comfortable to you.  If it is a family member and you cannot totally avoid them, you can at least minimize your contact with them.  If it’s a commitment, e.g., a club or organization of which you are a part…leave.  You are not doing them or yourself any good if you don’t want to be there.
